Congrats to Julia!

Congratulations go out to ECAB Lab MSc student Julia Campbell! Julia has earned a prestigious Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Canada Graduate Scholarship award for her mink project research to date. This scholarship requires a strong academic background and is annually awarded to 2,500 students across Canada. This is a great achievement and recognizes Julia’s potential as an emerging researcher!

In addition, Julia recently earned Best Presentation (Oral) for a Graduate Student at Science Atlantic Conference on March 8-10, 2019 in Antigonish, NS. Julia’s talk, Using Subfossil Midges to Assess the Potential Impacts of Mink Farming on Lake Water Quality in Southwestern Nova Scotia, won the Graduate Research Award. The award goes to the presentation that meets the following criteria:

  • Abstract – Statement of problem, objectives, principal findings

  • Presentation – Clarity, visual aids, organization

  • Scientific merit – Experimental design, innovative approach, and interpretation of data

  • Overall knowledge and response to questions

  • Demonstrated potential to pursue graduate studies and research

Julia is halfway through her MSc project studying the ecological impacts of mink farms on lakes in Nova Scotia and plans to finish in May 2020. Learn more about her important research.
